Subject: AGP 3850-will it ever surface?
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: X2-4600, 2048MB
Model/Manufacturer: Gigabyte
Comment:
A while ago there were rumours about an AGP version of the Radeon HD 3850 coming soon and launching on the same day as the PCI-e 256MB HD3850 or something like that. But as far as I can tell, no such product exists yet! Anyone know anything about this video card, like the expected laucnh date, if ever? I'd really like to upgrade from my 7800GS AGP. Even though AGP cards like the HD2600XT, X1950 Pro, and 7950GT are much faster than my 7800GS, to me they still aren't fast enough to justify the cost. But I could see myself buying an AGP HD3850.

While my PC motherboard is quite old, it's got a decent processor (AMD X2 4600) and a healthy amount of RAM on it. (2GB)

Boy, that goes to show that everything is reletive. You think your system is old. By some standards your system is almost state of the art.

If the card is released won't the price be alot more than the PCIe version?

It's an nForce3 board, hence the AGP.

What motherboard do you have? the nForce4 doesn't support AGP so you either have an nForce3, a VIA based board, or (gulp) an SiS based board. Oh yeah, there were some decent ULi based boards too.

The HD3850 AGP is still being rumored to happen...who knows when though. Personally, I wouldn't sink any money into an AGP card, especially since the one you have is fairly good. It's simply not cost effective.
