After formatting, doesn't recognize hardware

Specs: XP Professional
After getting a "Virus Protection software" bug, I formatted the Hard Drive and re-installed via the CD that came with computer. The Windows XP Professional started up just fine, but when I tried to hook up to the internet I found that I had no conection. After looking into it further, it seems that Windows can't recognize many of my system's hardware. I tried to search for and update drivers, but its like the system can't even see that their there anymore. No idea what to try next.

You erased all the drivers when you formated & reinstalled Windows. Apparently you don't have the drivers backed up to a disc? If you have an OEM system (Acer, Dell, Gateway, HP, etc), you're going to have to go to the manufacturer's website & download the drivers. If you have a custom built machine, you'll have to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website for the drivers. We can't help unless you post the make/model of your hardware. Next time, just remove the virus.
