This might sound a strange question but any help would be greatly appreciated. I am 99% certain my LCD screen on the laptop is faulty and needs changing. The system works OK on another monitor. Anycase I have the chance of getting another Advent 7340 laptop that has packed in. Apparently it is not the screen but the motherboard. I will probably then try changing the LCD screen. I have removed all the visible screws and the hinges that hold the screen in place and it appears that there is a ribbon and a wire connecting the screen and the motherboard; but I cannot open the laptop to see inside. I have gently tried forcing it open with a screw driver but it wont open up. Has any one any idea how this particuliar laptop opens up so I can get to the motherboard. http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/faq/laptop/7340.htm

No idea, but this practise is usually left to a qualified techhy that knows what he is doing with a particular model, coz in laptop world if you screw up the whole machine will screw up

Point taken; but if I can get the bloody thing open it cannot be that difficult.
I am under the impression that these Advent laptops which it appears are made exclusively for PC World cannot be opened:-(

Have you removed removeables, battery packs, drives, memory covers, etc. Many times screws are inside. Also sometimes there are screws under snap on trim (ex. Toshiba under accent strip above keyboard. Those screws allow the removal of the keyboard. which will lead to the exposure of more screws.). After the screws the covers may still be snapped together. Using the screwdriver to pry will damage the covers.
