My parents have just got broadband but when I set it up and put in the filters, i just got "error no dial tone" which is what you're meant to get without the filters. Everything seems to be working fine without filters - why is this??
They're also connecting at 2Mb when they're supposed to be on 512Kbps. Their supplier does'nt offer 2 Mb - any ideas anyone?? Thank you

As a general rule for DSL, the only line that shouldn't be filtered is the modem. All others are filtered. Is this what you have?

Yes, but if we put filters anywhere(not on modem line) there is no dial up tone. There is only one line in and one extension which the modem line comes off

If it works without filters, use it without. Not all phones require the filtes.

"error no dial tone" indicates that the PC is trying to connect by dialup. This should not be occurring.

Filters can help even if you don't notice it immediately. They're absence can cause the telephones not to detect the dialtone.

Without the filters, you will HEAR the scratching and screeching, albeit minimal and not loud like a dialup modem.

I do not know if this affects the data transfer, but I never had a problem when I had it rigged this way.
