Hi,
I am new to this and I did not know where to go for help.
I purchased the Advent T9304 a few years ago from PC world and also took out the additional support cover. Recently the DVD drives stopped operating and so I called PC worlds tech support to come and fix the problem. They came out and said that they would be happy to replace the DVD rewriter but not the DVD Rom. The machine has 2 DVD drives installed. I was surprised at their response. The reason was that they claimed that the original spec for the machine was only a single DVD rewriter and not the additional DVD rom and they claimed that I must have installed the other drive myself at a later date. I explained that the machine was purchased as is and no additional hardware had been installed after. There were 2 DVD drives in the machine when I purchased it.
So I do not know what to do.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Don't you have an original invoice showing what you bought?
If you can't verify the second optical drive then you may need to buy one if you feel two ae required. They are not very expensive.
However, if both drives stopped working at the same time there probably is a different problem. Could be software or hardware. If the techs are any good they should be able to sort it out.

I have the original receipt showing Advent T9304 purchased. However it does not state the number of DVD drives installed or any other hardware.
My argument with PC world is that there were 2 DVD drives installed at the time of purchase but they claim that the machine only came with one.
I know DVD drives are not expensive but it is the principle. I should be covered for both drives and if both drives are faulty then both should be replaced by PC world.
I just need to be able to prove that there were 2 drives installed when I purchased the machine.

Well unless that was a standard configuration I don't see how you are going to prevail.
If both drive stopped working at the same time the issue is probably not failed drives.
The list of possibilities includes a defective IDE channel, bad cable, BIOS setting change, issue with Windows, etc.
Watch your screens at startup. ALL drives should be identified by model in those screens. If the optical drives are identified the issue MAY lie within Windows. There are a number of possible software causes.

as Othehill stated it is unlikely both drives failed at the same time. If it is an IDE channel, now you only have one, which means you can only connect 2 devices, 1 harddrive & 1 dvd drive, this is why they only want to give you one dvd drive.
larry

As mentioned above, the chances of both drives going bad at the same time is not very likely at all. It 'could' be that one bad drive on a cable is keeping the other one from working.
It would be very unusual for a manufacturer to install two DVD drives in a box. I tend to believe that they are correct.
