I just bought my wife a Dell Dimension 3000 and it came thru with 512MB of RAM. I went to Best Buy who is a authorized Dell repair center and inquired about an additional 1000 MB of RAM. Their prices were extremely high. I usually buy from www.newegg.com and have found the following....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=Go&DEPA=0&type=&description=kingston&Category=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=15&Go.y=33

Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 400 (PC2 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model KVR400D2N3K2/1G - OEM

The spec's that came with her Dell list the RAM as.....

512MB,DDR-SDRAM 400M,NON-ECC,2X256,DIM

Can someone tell me if this is the proper RAM and if not maybe a suggestion or two please.

Her Dell does NOT use DDR2, it uses PC3200 (DDR400). And I'm assuming that since it's configured as 2 x 256MB, her motherboard uses dual channel mode. To increase her RAM amount & still maintain dual channel, her present RAM would have to be removed altogether & replaced with 1GB (2 x 512MB) of PC3200.

What does she use this PC for that you feel she needs a total of 1.5GB RAM? And here's a stupid question for ya...what possessed you to buy a Dell?

Hi,

The ram you are looking at isn't the right type. I believe you want DDR, not DDR2 which is what you have their go to this link

jam,

The answer to your question (what possessed you to buy a Dell?) is obvious. Anyone who clearly sees that their machine uses DDR-SDRAM 400M,NON-ECC, and asks if they can upgrade with 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM has to buy from Dell because it's safe (perhaps not wise, nor economical, but safe).

Sandor,

LOL! I know that...I was just having some fun. It's in the mid 90's & very humid here. I have no A/C, I'm sweaty & bored, & have nothing better to do ;)
