Hi, I have an Acer notebook running Win7/64 bit with 2 GB RAM (1x2) (DDR2/667 MHZ), with an extra slot for another 2GB (max'ing it out at 4 GB).

Does it really make any difference if I were to buy 2 new 2GB sticks and replace the existing? versus just adding a 2GB stick to the generic brand that came with the notebook ?

Thank you.

You can just add another 2 gig stick as long as they are the same specs. They don't have to be the same brand. Look on the stick you have now for a name. Try to match the voltage too. If you can find the name brand you have now, the voltages should match.

As long as their specifications match, the memory sticks don`t have to be the same brand, but it`s recommended.

Download CPUZ >> Open it >> Go to SPD Tab. Now You`ll be able to see your memory manufacturer.
