My ATI graphics card supports dual monitors and I also have an ATI TV Tuner card ,the ATI TV Wonder Elite ,which using the 2005 MCE of my O/S I veiw TV in a small screen on my 19" FP ,I can also use it full screen! I usally have it on the news or CSPAN ,history channel ,discovery etc. Anyway I know my Graphics card has the ability to use two monitors and the jacks for hooking it up . Sometime ago I purchased a DVD player/8" LCD dispaly protable for the car ,Iam curious if I can use this DVD player to hook it up and use the LCD screen to view the Media Center TV on ? At the time I purchased the prtable DVD for the car it was $300,now I see te same type of system for around $100 ! This way I will not be taking up any of the landscape on my 19" FP ! Thanks in Advance to All ! Nick
If the ATI card has TV out, and either a SVideo jack, or a proprietary jack to a dongle wiring adapter to SVideo or composite, or a SVideo to composite adapter, and the 8" CD has composite video in (RCA jack), or SVideo in, it should be no problem. You use Display - Settings - Advanced - Displays. Click on the white circle with the vertical bar at the top left of the buttons over the TV picture.
You can use one or the other - composite or SVideo, not both.
However, it may not be supported by Media Center's TV app. You may have to use the ATI TV app. .....
OR
if the 8" LCD has a PC video in jack (15 pin vga or DVI), you could hook it up to the video card and it should be detected automatically as a secondary monitor.
THank You for your answer to my ? ,I have so many S video cables from over the years of buying Graphic cards and TV Tuner Cards that Iam sure I already have the H.W. to hook up the DVD player/8"LCD monitor . I will follow your instructions and read up on conecting the secondary monitor funtion ! Again than you for your input ! Take Care Nick
OK. Good luck with that. My parents were given a cheap 7" LCD display, 12v DC via an AC power adapter, but it has only a flash card port, no SVideo in or composite in, or VGA or DVI in monitor port.
