Hi all,

Acer UK refuse to sell me a replacement motherboard for my Acer Aspire iDea 510 Media Center PC. Does anyone know where else i can get aftermarket ACER parts of this nature? Uk or wherever so long as they deliver to me, ofcourse.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks

Dwayne

Are you 100% certain that the board is bad? What are the symptoms & what have you done to troubleshoot the problem? If it is bad, why won't Acer replace it?

Basically, the motherboard used in the iDea is a laptop board. I highly doubt you're gonna find ANY aftermarket boards to fit it...most likely you're gonna need an Acer replacement.

That's why it's generally recommended NOT to by SFF (small form factor) PCs or any other PC that uses proprietary hardware. The parts are difficult to find & are usually VERY expensive. According to that article the MSRP is $3000? Would you be willing to pay say, $500 for a board? Would you be able to do the repair or would you have to pay someone to do it?

Sounds like ACER will only allow authorized outlets that have the training to work on the unit.

Sounds like ACER are taking the piss if you ask me. I'm 100% certain the board (or components on it) are gone. Tried my HDD and PSU on my mates idea 510 (identical unit) and all booted perfectly. I dont even get to CMOS/BIOS.

I only paid £502 (approx $1000) dollars from an online store in the UK. It still under warranty, but its probably void as i broke the stickers when changing RAM and checking for the problem myself.

Do you think i may get some help being stsill within warranty period, despite having ripped the stickers? Even if only on saving labour charges?

Other than this, can anyone recommend a good dealer/site where i can check for a replacement board that would fit my machine's case.

thanks

Hi, I don't know if you still have this problem but I had a similar problem where the machine hung on the acer startup logo, after a couple of returns to acer's repair centre and still no joy i investigated the problem myself.

I found that it was due to a faulty sata data cable, so i replaced it with a spare that i had, and bingo, no more problems.

If you use a regular sata cable you will need to angle the drive slighty so it does not foul on the dvd drive, i used 2 motherboard spacers on the 2 mounts closest to the right hand side.
