Acer laptop unexpected shutdown

Specs: Windows Vista
my acer keeps shutting down without warning...just blacks out and then when i turn it back on I'm geting the safe mode options etc on screen....I can't send it back to acer as I bought it not brand happens every couple of hours....i use it on my lap most times and most times it does feel warm on my wondering if it is overheating but ive tried moving it to a chair and it still does the same so I don't know????? helpppppppp

It is ironic that these portable computers are called laptops. It is not a good idea to use one sitting in your lap. The airflow is restricted.

When Windows is improperly shutdown as happens in your case it will give you those boot choices. That is normal under the circumstances.

Try downloading a monitoring utility like speedfan to see what the system and CPU temperatures are when in use. Get speed fan at the link below.

Clean the fan and apply Artic Silver termal compound on the processors. It's shutting down because of overheating. I had the same problem with my acer laptop and this fixed the problem.
