This question is asked just about every day.
An HD password is a security measure to combat theft. It cannot be easily removed.
You will have to contact Acer and be prepared to prove you are the original owner.

Your friend's friend either needs to provide a password or you deal with Acer.

To reset HardDrive password created in BIOS on a AOD250 netbook Acer Aspire one :

Remove HDD and reboot press F2
> Security Clear all passwords reset to default values and save on exit
>Allow pc to reboot (Messages will appear the last message no HDD detected. Turn off by pressing off switch three seconds)
> Install HDD
>Boot PC Then Press F2 immediately
>Look for Security Tab in BIOS
>Notice the Word FROZE has disappeared
>Type Original Password
>Then hit enter, Then enter again and save
>U will notice it now says clear.
I had to attemp this three time and it finally worked.

Good Luck.

You will notice in the instructions in reply #4 that you are required to type in the current password. If you do not know it ( unlikely since the machine apparently belongs to a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend twice removed .... read here- " was likely acquired by 5 finger discount") then you might just as well leave it ( anonymously of course ) at your nearest police station for return to the rightful owner.

There are programs that will unlock the drive "hdunlock". But understand it formats the hd and there is a chance the hd will be toast.

To date I know of no software manufacturer or hacker that will crack a hd password. Maybe someday?

That is pretty good. Three requests for password help in only one thread. We must be linked on the wares and torrent sites. All the folks with five finger discount laptops are now coming here.
