Acer Aspire Zg5 laptop can't power up

December 19, 2009 at 07:57:37
Specs: Windows XP
With or without AC power, when I push the power on
button, I can hear the hard drive running, but the screen
remains black. The 1st few times, I am able to turn off
power. After a while, the only way to turn off is to
disconnect AC power and remove the battery.

Have you tried connecting an external monitor?

Good point; thanks. I have not, since I don't have a separate
monitor.

If the display is black, how were you able to post this thread?

I used my Macintosh Powerbook G4. I found a solution in
ACER's Frequently Asked Questions. Downloaded a new bios
to the Mac, saved it to a USB flash memory, plugged it into the
ACER, and booted from the flash memory. It fixed the problem
right away! I was stunned! Acer has some good info up on
their website.

END OF PROBLEM
