can anyone tell me if there is a way to operate the @ symbol that is unique to acer computers because my sister has just bought 2 new laptops and niether one will display the@ symbol by pressing shift and then the key

I mean, when you push SHIFT-2 what shows up on your screen? The only thing I can think of is windows has loaded the wrong keyboard layout. I'm not sure about Vista but for other windows versions that info should be in 'keyboard' in control panel.

If that is the problem then yes, you'd change the keyboard layout from whatever it is now to English--US. I'm not running Vista but I assume that option would be in control panel.
