Specs: windows 8.1, 4GB
Good day,

I need some help in diagnosing a problem that I have with a harddrive. I have the above mentioned laptop, which came with a Toshiba 500GB hard drive, and all of a sudden it just stopped working. I have used a usb adapter and plugged it into another machine and the machine sees the harddrive. I was even able to format it. I returned it into the acer laptop and the bios was seeing it. I then began to install windows 8.1 on it and when it got to the part where it asking you on which partition would like to install windows on the box was empty. Took it out and placed it in again, since then the BIOS is not seeing it. How can I get the bios to see the harddrive. When I use the usb adapter the pc still sees it.

If this is the original Acer HDD, there should have been several partitions - a 350MB hidden "system reserved" partition, the Windows partition, & a system recovery partition.

How did you go about formatting?
