Solved acer aspire 7520 grey screen

July 24, 2012 at 03:47:15
Specs: Windows Vista home premium
I have read many posts about this but non seem to descibe my symptoms.
Acer aspire 7520 boots up OK (on light does not flash) screen lights up grey without any lines or distortion (if I press Fn F6 screen goes black and reverse). I had a period of intermittant display jitter/distortion for about two weeks, before I started to get plain grey screen
When I attach External CRT monitor it will only display in safe mode (laptop screen still grey). If I disconnect laptop screen ( cable behind screen) then ext monitor boots up as normal with full computer display and facilities. I have replaced screen inverter - no change.
Please help can not afford new computer and daughter needs it for her studies.

✔ Best Answer
The 3 main components required for proper functioning of a laptop screen are:

1. Inverter board (already replaced)
2. Backlight
3. Graphics adapter (must be okay otherwise external monitor would not work)

So I suspect the backlight needs replacing.

Many thanks for the excellent advice Phil22- I wonder if I (average DIY) could replace backlight or whether new screen required. Will update as I progress , or otherwise.
Thanks again
