Accidentlyl Washed ThumbDrive With my Laundry

July 6, 2010 at 21:32:31
Specs: Windows Vista
I accidentely washed my thumbdrive with my laundry in a washing machine. I made sure the drive was thougoughly drive, then plugged into my computer. Amazingly, no data was lost and it doesn't seem corrupted in any way.

Will this "washed" thumbdrive continue to work properly or will it start giving me problemss?

Who knows; it could crap out tomorrow or last for years. Just don't use it for important stuff in case it does turn its little toes up one day.

As long as it's dry it should be OK. There's no moving parts for the water to affect and its electronics weren't powered up while in the washer so nothing is shorted out.

My experience with electronic equipment and liquids is that long term reliability is very questionable. Do not use this drive for important data. Failure will likely come without warning.
