Accidentally deleted ext. partition

Hello everyone,
I accidentally deleted the only partition on my external hard drive. It has some valuable data on it so I'd like to be able to recover it. I know there's partition recovery programs but Windows doesn't even recognize the disk anymore! I never ever had problems like this before :(.
So does anyone have a solution on how to recover my external hard drive?

Jam: I was installing windows, but forgot to detach the external hard drive. The external drive and internal drive are both same sizes and instead of the internal drive's partition I deleted the external one. Stupid mistake. Your response did not help at all.
OtheHill: I will try that, thank you.

I downloaded TestDisk and it worked like a charm! Very easy and quick.
Thanks again OtheHill, really appreciated!
