Accessing external HDD

February 18, 2009 at 05:07:27
Specs: Windows XP MCE, 3.2/1GB
I copied the My Music folder from my HDD to my Maxtor external drive. I went to delete the folder off the external today but it said that a file in the folder was currupt. So I decided to format the drive, but before doing so, I copied the other files to my HDD that were there originally on the external so that if the formatting went wrong I could put these 2 files back. These files were Maxtor_Portable ans Autorun. But since the format I'm unable to access the drive and can't put these 2 files (or any file) back on it. When I double click the drive in My Computer it says that the drive is not formatted and asks if I'd like to format it. I have clicked yes, but when it gets to the end it says that the disk cannot be formatted. Please help me get access to the drive again. Thanks.

I think the software that came on the drive in question is located on a hidden partition. If that software has gotten corrupted you may be able to restore it by applying a download. At any rate I suggest you contact Maxtor tech support for help. Below is a link to the maxtor download page. The software originally on your drive may be located there.
