Hello all. I'm having a problem, I got a new hard drive and installed it as primary, I left my old 80 gig on secondary channel but with xp still installed on it. I am trying to access my user documents on that drive (for backup purposes) and it says Access Denied. Now i know I can set permissions to the folder and drive and such, I just forget how...can someone help me out?
Thanks in advance
Bill

Oka, try this...
- Log on as Administrator or an account that has administrator privilages.
- Right click on the folder you can't access and select 'Properties'.
- Select the 'Security' Tab and then the click the 'Advanced' button (near the bottom).
- You will now have a dialogue box entitled "Advanced Security Settings for %Folder Name%". There are two tick boxes towards the bottom of the dialogue box. The one starting "Inherit from parent the permissions..." will be ticked. UNTICK IT then click apply.
- Once it is finished resetting permissions (may take a while is it has to do it for all sub folders and files click on the 'Owner' Tab of the dialogue box.
- Select the user account that you use to logon from the list, then tick the box entitled "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects", then click 'OK'.
- It will process awy as before and hopefully when it is done you will have full access to the folder you can't get into.
Hope this helps.
