I have a new ASUS Motherboard with the onboard AC'97 audio with Realtek ALC650 Audio Codec. The drivers are right off of the cd that came with the motherboard and the sound works fine in stereo out jacks but I cannot get the subwoofer out to work. I have tried the settings in the AC'97 Audio Configuration but nothing happens. I can plug in the sub alone to the jack the stereo speaker are in and it works but not in it's own jack. Same goes for the surround or rear out.

Any Ideas anyone?

I'm confused, all modern speaker outputs consist of 3 connectors, green, orange, and black, and I now that the board has these connectors since I have an Asus board too with the same sound chip. Green is for front, black for rear, and orange for sub. Don't know if this will help.....

Mine have 3 connectors 2 channel consists of green front out blue line in or rear out, pink Mic in or center sub out.

4 channel line out green, blue rear out or line in, pink mic in or sub out.

6 channel green line out, blue rear out or line in, pink sub out or mic in.

As I said these can be changed in the AC'97 Audio Configuration.

this isnt very helpful advice, but if you really do want quality sound from your computer then get a new soundcard and disable the AC'97 through BIOS. its only about £50 for a decent 5.1 card or you can spend about £20 on an sb128.

in the long run mate its worth it.

Oh if you want to take full advantage of a sub & any surround sound equipment you have you WILL need a 5.1 compatible card.

My PC came with AC97 intergrated audio, sometimes I would have sound , most of the time no sound. Since the PC was new I had the support from the OEM of the PC trouble shooting the problem and they could never figure out how to fix it. My next options where to box up the PC and send it back to them , or install a PCI sound card. I decided on the sound card and never looked back .I disabled the onboard audio in the BIOS. My brother purchased a PC with AC97 built in sound , same thing , no sound most of the time ! Good Luck Nick

I have an Asus A7V8X board w/ the same onboard audio. I tried it when I first assembled the system, but the onboard was awful. The drivers off the CD I think were messed up in some way. Like there was this "Soundman" icon in the system tray, but I could even bring up the 5.1/6.1 speaker config menu, EQ, etc. Right-click it and it did nothing. Also, when there was no sound playing, I'd often get this annoying high-pitched humming sound on my speakers from doing something as simple as opening the web browser! I quickly disabled it and installed an Aureal Vortex-2 based soundcard. Someone made a patch so the Win2K (w/ control panel, EQ, etc.) drivers would work properly in WinXP. Never been happier!

Well I got it working and it was my fault. I am sharing my powered 10" 100W home theater sub woofer with my computer sub out. The Jack on the computer is not stereo out for the sub but mono. The jack is two channel 1 for center and 1 for sub. I tried connecting the sub in stereo and it was conflicting with the center channel on the onboard audio. Now it really jams with my powered computer speakers and my 10" sub. The only drawback I am having now is getting my hp multimedia keyboard driver to work with the computer. It works fine on the old computer with xp which had a full install but not on my new computer with full install. I keep getting a script error.

Mabey later I will get a new sound card anyhow. But at least it didn't have onboard video! It's the real pain.
