Hi folks,

I have been shopping around for components building an AMD Phenom II X4 955 box with 2 sets DDR3 2Gx2 dual channel 1600/1333 RAM (total 8G). However I found not many of them available on market. It looks to me dual channel RAM gradually phasing out market replaced with 2Gx3 triple channel RAM.

Is there any advantage running triple channel RAM over dual channel RAM? I need 8G RAM. If running triple channel RAM I must sacrifice 2G leaving one RAM slot non use.

Which motherboard can support triple channel RAM ? TIA

Only Intel Core i7 (X58) motherboards can run memory in triple-channel mode.
AMD Phenom systems are limited to dual-channel memory.

You're not missing a whole lot. Even with a mighty i7 under the hood you'd only gain 2-6% in performance by running the memory in triple-channel mode.
