Comment:

I have just installed an Abit NF7-S motherboard last night and installed windows etc and everything was fine. Today I replaced my graphics card (Geforce FX5700 Le) with another graphics card (Geforce 4 MX440) which is staying in the computer. After i did this I started the computer and it locked in in P.O.S.T. detecting IDE devices. I tried clearing the CMOS and the same thing happens. I took everyhing out such as PCI cards, ram and disconnected the power supply from mobo, cleared CMOS again, and put it back together again. Tried turning computer on and yet again it still locks up detecting IDE devices. This is realy doing my head in now so any help would be greatly appreciated.

by clearing cmos do you mean you reset the escd?

[manually force the BIOS to clear the previously saved ESCD data and reconfigure the settings. enable this BIOS feature and then reboot your computer.]

if that fails clear escd again and restart with just ram and vid card. then install pci cards one at a time.(reboot for each one)

I don't understand why you would setup everything with one card, if you knew you were gonna go with another card?

Are you sure you're clearing CMOS correctly? You must unplug the PSU before removing the battery or using the ClearCMOS jumper. The ATX PSU always keeps the board energized, even when turned off...if it's not unplugged, CMOS may not clear. Make sure to leave the battery out or jumper in place for at least a minute or two....

Did you try disconnecting all your IDE devices & see if POST will complete?

Try disconnecting all of your IDE devices EXCEPT your hard drive. Also make sure the IDE cable is pushed in the whole way in all of your devices. You may have semi-disconnected it while making the switch.

This is not my computer but the graphics card was, that's why I had to change it for the one that's staying in there. I just tried disconnecting everything and just left the mobo in there. I cleared the cmos again and left it on the jumper for about 2 mins. I reconnected all the hardware back up and started computer and I still have the same problem. I can't enter BIOS by pressing delete as it does nothing. It just locks up and detecting IDE devices.
