Abit NF7 - NB chip - no fan ok ?

Abit Nf7-s2 motherboard

Specs: Windows XP, Athlon XP 2400+ OC
The Abit NF7 v2 motherboard has a HSF on the Northbridge chip. The fan is shot. I noticed that most often this heatsink is recommended -

Is it ok to replace it with this ? or is it better to replace with one that has a fan ?
Will the fanless heatsink cool as effectively as a new fan ?
Please advise.

The vendor put a fan on there for a reason.

sure if the original heatsink was something like this -

but the original hardly has any heatsink in it. Its just a thin small plate of metal(aluminium?). As compared to that the Zalman I linked to above has a LOT more surface area. And thats what I was wondering - whether all that extra surface area will compensate for a fan or not.

If you have the room for it & your case is reasonably well ventilated, I think the large heatsink will work.
