I'm working on my sister's PC that was loaded with spyware & viruses (thanks to her grand daughter). I got everything cleared out, repartitioned the HDD & moved a lot of files to the new partition, added a few programs, scandisk, defragged, & all appeared well. The screen was set to 800 x 600 & I wanted to change it to 1024 x 768 (she has an ATI Xpert2000 Pro AGP). I right clicked on the screen, selected properties, then clicked on the settings tab & it immediately blue screened. I tried it a few more times & got the same thing. I went to start > run & tried DXDIAG...it popped up for a minute then blue screened again. Pressing a key brought it back but it blue screened in about 5 secs...I did this a few times until closing DXDIAG. So I decided to unistall & reinstall the ATI drivers. On the reboot after the driver install, the system beeped rapidly like a key was being held down & it froze on the boot screen. I rebooted & tried to access the BIOS, but it would not respond to the keyboard. I tried resetting the BIOS but that was a bad move because the keyboard remained unresponsive...DEL or F1 wouldn't work. I tried 4 different keyboards & finally got one to work (intermittently)...it took several reboots but I finally got the BIOS straightened around & got back into Windows again, but the mouse & keyboard refused to work, so I connected an old serial mouse. I don't think the ATI drivers caused this...probably just a coincidence that it all happened after the update?

I removed all the cards & disconnected all the drives to troubleshoot the board...still keyboard probs...either totally unresponsive or intermittent. It was tough, but I managed to reflash the BIOS, but that didn't help...I tried 3 different (newer) versions. I tried googling & it appears a few others have had this prob with the same board...it seems the only "fix" is to switch to a USB keyboard & mouse. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Hey jam, Unlike you to have a problem you cannot solve. Sure sounds like the PS2 has failed on the motherboard. If you are willing to risk fragging the board completely you could try removing/replacing the PS2 port. If it is a faulty connection at that point you may fix it . If it is other failed component somewhere in the PS2 controls then that would require a real tech to diagnose and repair and those people charge more than a board is worth.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

I've been in contact with ABIT & they keep suggesting stuff I've already tried. I'm not sure if I'm getting auto-responses or if I'm hearing from an actual person...lol. They don't seem to comment on anything I write.

The board is out of the case with just the minimum installed & the PS/2 keyboard is now totally unresponsive. I foolishly reset the BIOS & now I'm dead in the water...the boot screen stops at "press F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup". I don't have a USB keyboard to try, but even if I did, I believe it would have to be enabled in the BIOS.

I'm still waiting on the next reply from ABIT. I believe I can RMA the board. If it's 2 yrs old or less & I can come up with a receipt, they'll replace it for free...if I don't have a receipt or if it's more than 2 yrs old, they want $25. I have an Asus A7V133 I can install, but I had other plans for it. I don't think I did anything to bring this on, but since I had it when it happened, I gotta make it right....

Any other suggestions?
