my computer refuses to start, I think that it may have recieved static shock through it's power switch.
the house it is in tends to generate a fair bit of static at times. a few times in the past it has been "zaped" and all I needed to do to get it to start was to unplug the power cord and switch of the power supply. then plug it back in and switch on the power supply again. not working this time. I can't get it to start up at all now.
Is there any way to save this board, any suggestions?

What do you mean by dead? Does the CPU fan spin? Hard drive come on? Monitor light turn green or is it orange? It sounds like it is a power supply issue. I would definitely swap a new or newer power supply and see if that's the culprit. If it isn't it may definitely be your motherboard. Hope this helps

there is a light on the power supply switch whitch turns on, also the optical mouse is geting power from the computer when power is available (it lights up even when computer is off) also various leds on the motherboard are lit. but pressing the power switch or directly jumping the power switch pins on the motherboard won't start the power to run normaly, no fans, no drives spin up.
I'm about to try a different power supply, we'll see how that goes..
