Comment:

I have a new Asus A7S333 motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP 1600 processor. When I boot it successfully gets to the bios setup screen and then powers off in 5-15 seconds. I think it might have something to do with ASUS COP and the processor temperature, but I have a heatsink with a fan on the processor - and the processor does not feel hot. Is there anyway to know if this is the reason the system is shuting down? Is there anything else I should try? Thanks

Could be a memory issue if your RAM is cheap. AMD setups, especially with Windows, can be really finicky about the RAM that you're using. If you can boot into the bios serup screen, and KNOWING that you have about5 5 - 15 seconds of time, try to get to the FAIL SAFE DEFAULT settings and see if the rebooting problem stops.

Get into your bios, then use your arrow keys to immediately select the FAIL SAFE option, followed by immediately exiting with "Y" for yes - to save the settings.

If that won't do it, get your manual, and find out how to clear your cmos/bios settings. Doing that may enable you to boot up properly if your problem is *NOT* related to the memory or excessive heat.

I'm curious, if you don't go into the bios setup, will the computer boot up normally - and if so, does it show your processor correctly on the black post screen?

Hey Intel, AMD rulez!

It could be a power supply issue. If your power supply is new there is less of a chance

I just had a similar problem at work. One of the computers I am supporting just went blank on me.

No output to the monitor. Monitor Power light flashes like its in hibernate, HDD LED stays lit and doesn't flash.

I rebooted several times tried safe mode, safe mode to command prompt, Last known good configuration, differnt OS(dual boot). Every time 20 seconds from when I booted it goes blank again. I can't get the OS to load fast enough before it goes blank. I next went into my BIOS to check the setting and again around 20 seconds and BAM goes blank while im in the BIOS! I've never seen anything like it. I've checked all of the connections in the computer. Everything except using a voltmeter on the motherboard and power supply.

This is on a computer that has been running for a year or more just fine. Memory, temperature, fans, all up to spec.
