My Asus A7N8X Deluxe (fully updated bios) + Athlon XP 2800 + Windows XP SP1 PC works great, Device Manager shows all hardware is hunky-dory, and Event Viewer shows no problems. I have three different USB 2.0 external drives, each of which registers correctly when I plug it in to a USB port. When I attempt to copy a large (~70 MB) file from my PC to any one of those drives, the copy progress meter pops up and moves smartly most of the way across, then the copy fails with the same error each time: "Copy failed. The requested file cannot be found". After that, the drive is no longer registered, and the red access light is glowing. I have to unplug and power down the drive, then plug it back in to get it back. Explorer shows the entire file as having been copied, but of course it's only partly there (I checked with an MPEG file--the first several seconds play just fine). Any ideas on what might be wrong?

What kind of drive are you copying to? USB hard drive? Mabey you need something like a USB hub with external power. I have a belkin USB hub that you can select to use the power from the pc or you can plug it in and it will use the power from wall transformer instead.
It could be dipping voltage on the usb while trying to write file.

Thanks for your response. I should have specified that all three drives are USB 2.0 hard drives with external power, so I don't think an additional hub will help (but I'll likely get one anyway--does anyone have enough USB ports?)

I should also point out that these USB 2.0 drives work flawlessly when attached to the USB 1.1 ports on my other computers.

Summary: I want to get USB 2.0 key drive, and I have been looking at the specs of those that I come across. Some of them say that they can read at 5.3MB/sec and write at 4.2MB/sec. These ARE USB 2.0. I thought...
