Hi
I have a computer that is running extremely slow. I've used various spyware removers and virus scanners. There is also sufficient RAM. Any ideas what to do next??
Thanks

What do you regard as sufficient ram? What speed P3 processor? Do you have onboard graphics using shared ram or a separate graphics card and if so what spec?
Have you checked in MSCONFIG to see what processes are running at startup?
Check here for a good guide on what services you can expect to run for good efficiency:

A P3 with 1GB RAM (as I recall from another post?) should not be "Very Very Slow". Either your system is infected, you have a ton of garbage loading at startup, your BIOS settings are incorrect, or any combination of the 3.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up Task Manager...at the bottom, what do you have listed for Processes, CPU Usage & Commit Charge?
I try to run very lean...here's what I have right now:
Processes: 33
CPU Usage: 0%
Commit Charge: 416M/3403M

striker_77,
Care to explain why you keep asking similar question over and over again? You hardly provided enough information about the machine in question.

im sure you might have tried this already but have you tryed simple things such as defraging, disk cleanup and clearing your temporary files on your pc. i used to have the same problem on my laptop and sisters pc and by defraging i almost fixed the problem.
im sure you have tried these things already but if you havent try and see if it works.

Try installing another operating system (i.e. Windows XP Professional) and see if it is slow there. If it is very fast like it should be, then your computer is a good computer and there is something wrong with your operating system (i.e. has spyware or some stuff on it). If its the same slow speed and its just a tiny bit faster because of your clean installation, then you probably have a device that is making the computer sluggish. Try playing around by removing a memory which may be obsolete or remove a video device or something obsolete.
Oh, if you have Windows Vista right now, I suggest you go back to Windows XP or better, Windows 2000. Pentium 3's or early Pentium 4's aren't good enough for Windows Vista.

Suggest first do as Jam sugggests and use Task Master to identify which process(es) are causing the slow running.
Advise back what you find.
Good Luck - Keep us posted.
