I think I may have fully messed my MBR up, I had two partition one with Windows XP and another with Windows 7, and I deleted the Windows 7 partition and created one big drive again. But when I booted the system up it would still ask if I wanted to boot Windows XP or Windows 7 so I loaded my XP disk and entered the recover console and typed fixboot c: restarted the system and was greeted with “A disk read error occurred. Press Alt Ctl Del to restart”
So I then went back into recover console and typed fixmbr, this has also not worked, when I try and run fixdsk it comes up saying it can’t be fixed.
Also when I boot from the XP CD and try to perform a Repair it does not give me the option to press R on the partition
Any way around this or is it a format and start again job? I have the HDD out the computer at the moment as I am going to connect it up to me work computer tomorrow and see if I can extract some data of it.
