I have an 8i945gmh-rh server and I am planning to put 64 bit Windows Server 64 bit or VMware ESX Server on it. I put 4 GB of PC 6400 memory in it from PC 4300 2 GB of RAM. Now, here is the issue. The BIOS detects the ram as 3.24 GB instead of all 4. How do I enable Memory Remap for this motherboard? I can't find out how to do it and I even updated the BIOS.

I've never used the desktop i945 chipset, but the mobile i945 chipsets will only do up to 3GB of RAM. The desktop 945 probably has the same limitation.

AFAIK, not even a BIOS update can solve this, as the problem lies in the fact that the memory controller component of the i945 can only handle 32-bit memory access.

I currently have 4GB of RAM installed in my i945-based laptop, but Windows Vista Business 64 only sees 3GB of it.

Reading other threads, I am disgusted. Intel is really ripping us off with this 4 GB dillema. I was really going to install Windows Server 2008 64 bit on a 4 GB system together with a 2 GB Hyper V Machine running Exchange Server 2007! However, its not possible with the fact that my server has only has 3.24 MB of Memory because of the stupid chipset. I guess I have to just use Windows Server 2003 32 bit instead. I don't want my Domain Controller having less than 1 GB because of the VM's!
