hello all, my graphics card has been acting up for a while but i cant upgrade until late December.

When I try to play source games like Hl2 it usally just puts my monitor into standby and freezes my system when i try to start a game,(also happens in HL2 episode 1), but HL2 episode 2 works fine. Also i can play TF2 for exactly an hour and then it goes into standby. I can play any other non-source game: black and white 2, SPORE, Roller coaster tycoon 3(also garrys mod, a hl2 mod, it works fine on small maps).

anyone know whats up?

How about the specs on your PSU...make/model & amperage ratings? It could be your video card is starving for power. Another possibility is overheating.

BTW, is your system overclocked? If not & you're running the CPU at default speed, underclock your RAM to 533MHz to match the CPU frequency.

i already underclocked it, it is currently running at 475mhz GPU and 808 mhz memory bus.

also the +12v rail is 35A and 420W.
i have a dvd drive,a floppy and 1 hdd

edit/ps. its late... and i don't think im reading you right, you want me to clock my ram at the same speed as the gpu?

No, I asked about the CPU & system RAM. The Q6600 runs at 266MHz (1066MHz QDR). If you're running your DDR2 RAM at 400MHz (800MHz DDR), you'll get slightly better performance if you underclock it to 266MHz (533MHz DDR). It was just a tip, it has nothing to do with your problem.

Sounds like the PSU specs are good, so check for overheating.

Sorry, I misread the OP. I thought the games locked up after playing for a while, not immediately. It could be a problem with the settings or maybe a driver issue. Pretty vague, huh?
