|I have a dell dimension 9200 that initially would not boot off the hdd. The XP screen would endlessly display with that blue dotted line going across the progress bar. I did a ram test that passed with no issues than I started pulling the parts out (any necessary cards and then finally the video card, replaced the card with another one i had (no onboard video on this dell)..and then tried the comp again and this time got a 7B stop error. |
I did a RAM test again, came back clean, and did some more fiddling (pulling out and putting back cards).. then did a HDD test with dell's own built in software.. can't remember what its called now.. and that test found hdd errors. (keep in mind, there were no other parts connected to the mobo at this point)
I then tried booting the system with UBCD4WIN and yet another 7B stop error. Then I disconnected the HDD from the mobo and tried UBCD4WIN again... still same stop error.
Then I tried the regular UBCD.. v6 beta 12... and booted just fine. Seems like this machine has problem with anything Windows since linux works. But it can't be a driver issue if everything is disconnected from the mobo and since UBCD4WIN isn't working, right? It can't be, or at least, can't JUST be the HDD not working since the UBCD4WIN disk won't boot, right?
Very odd. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
