Hi, I have a 300 gig external hd that connects with a hi speed usb 2.0. Its a 7200 rpm drive. My laptop has a built in laptop drive that's 60 gigs and 5200 rpm. (i think 5200..maybe 5400?) I was wondering, for gaming or dvd burning, will it be faster if i have the files on he external 7200 or the internal 5200? I assume that the 7200 does not get the full speed due to the usb 2.0? Is usb 2.0 faster then 5200 rpm internal? Thanks, Cody

I would think the internal drive would be faster due to the interface bandwidth. To be sure, just find a HD bebnchmarking application and run it on both.

Sisoft SANDRA is a useful utility. freeware version 5 will also benchmark drives. There are probably better benchmarking program out there but you are simply looking for relitive speed and as I said SANDRA is very useful. Find Version 5 here. http://download.guru3d.com/sandra/
