I'd go with the 512 sdr for now but.. if you can get the money then go for 512 of ddr ram instead of the 256.. i know its kinda expensive but.. it makes everything run nice...

does your mother board support both?
If it does thats cool but i'm not sure if your ddr video card will run with sdram i could be wrong but make sure before you buy
me i'd get two 256 ddr pc266mhz or get one know and one down the road you can run most games with only 256 the only game i know that needs 256 ram is civIII.

If you have SDRAM installed now and dont want to remove it then there would be little point adding DDR Ram next to it.

As far as I am aware all the RAM in your system would need to be DDR for you to reap the benefits. If you mix the two types it will only run at the speed of the slowest memory i.e SDRAM.

If this is incorrect I'm sure someone will put me right.

well my mobo supports both(sdr&ddr) but *not* at the same time(ddr only or sdr only). i'm using 256mb pc 133 right now, does that mean my geforce4(ddr) is not running to its full speed?

Torm,

Your video card is indeed not running at it's full supported speed. It's being held back the pc 133 speed. If you have two different speeds of ram you'll only ran as fast as the slowest ram module. And as far as ram is concerned, you're right! You cannot run two different types of ram (DDR or SDR together) even though your computer supports both.

Also, I agree with Shane, use the SDR since you have more of it, but in the future - if possible - go with DRR. You won't regret it. I know this, because my board supports both DDR and SDR and at the moment I'm using 512DDR and it's a big difference between 512SDR and 512DDR.

No the system memory and the videocard memory have nothing to do with each other. It's sure that DDR will run games faster but your geforce4 will always run at it's full speed. For now i'm using 384 pc133 with an ATI 8500LE and i got 7300 in 3DMark, but i know that if i was using DDR instead, i could reach 8500 or near 9000. So if u have the choice between sdram and ddr, choose ddr, anyway, think for futur upgrade, ddr is the new technology, don't but sdram cause you'll have to updrade one day. 15% or 20% benefit from the ddr make i big difference in games.

Well Its like the P4 Subject the P4 wont give its fully potential Without RAMBUS
same with Athlon XP it wont give its full potential with DDR(at least 266)so Sdram is History, Obsolete!
