I just bought a Logitech G51 speaker system to replace my old stereo speakers. I use Vista ultimate x64. I have a Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard with included 7.1 sound. I went in the bios to select "vista sound" and HD (instead of ac97). I plugged all satellites to the sub by the book, checked my connections 3 times, plugged to sub to the computer (green=front, black=rear, orange=sub, pink=mic) and assigned the same value in my drivers (Realtek HD Audio Manager). I also went into properties in Windows sound option on my speakers to increase the volume of the color plugs who were set a 0.

After everything, I can only hear sound coming from the sub and the middle speaker (very quiet). If I change the "matrix mode" on my controller hud to game or music, the front right speaker get very loud, both back speakers begin to work correctly, but the center and front left just stop. Also the 5.1 test in my drivers/windows sound options give the same result, but note that the sub play sound too when it's the turn of the middle speaker (with matrix off).

Anyone have any idea?

My first question would be this. Is your sound chip fully supported in Vista64?

If so, do you need to install additional drivers or is the support native?

If drivers are required did you install them and did you verify they are the correct ones for your exact MBoard and OS?

Did you read the entire manual for the speakers?

Yes, my drivers are installed and it's the same version on Asus website since I bought my computer (Realtek HD Audio Driver V6.0.1.5350 for Windows 32bit/64bit Vista.(WHQL)). I will try to desinstall them/reboot/reinstall/reboot.

Also, yes I read the manual for my speaker (which only tell how to plug everything). I'm pretty sure there is no problem in the wiring.

Re-installing did not help... well it did make me realize I had the balance to full right in my drivers (though it was volume), but it don't help much. Now I have front left, middle and sub working correctly, front right behaving as the sub and rears with no sound at all.

Your motherboard manual gives different instructions on where the speakers are to be connected. You may want to look at 4-28/29 of your MBoard manual.

I switched back speaker to side speaker in my drivers and everything went fine.
