Hi there. I have several 5 1/4 floppy drives. The problem is that i have to test them and i don't know how to identify the high density from the low density. Some of them have green leds the others have orange leds. Green led's is high? And orange is low? Also each of them as a jumper numbered 1 to 4. I know that jumper 1 and 2 are for a: and b: what about 3 and 4?

Generally a Black front plastic plate is for 360 Ko 5.25 in. drive and a Beige front plastic plate is 1.2 Mo 5.25 in. drive.Good luck.

I've seen both "sizes" of these with just about every color imaginable for trim or led's. The only sure way I know of, unless you know how to "measure" the heads, is read a high density (1.2 mb) floppy.

If I remember correctly that at least some low density drives can read the 1.2mb disks but can not write to them.
