If I buy... G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory.

Will XP still run the memory in dual channel mode even though it only recognizes 3GB?

Thanks

Yes, your memory will continue to run in dual channel mode.

The chipset on the motherboard determines whether or not the memory can run in dual channel mode, not the operating system.

Main System:
Dual core Opteron 185 @ 3.2GHz
Two 8800GTS cards
4GB PC3200
Blu-Ray
X-Fi Titanium Pro
A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Samsung 24" LCD
Vista 64 SP1

But why would you get DDR2-1000 for a 1333MHz FSB CPU? You would have to underclock it to DDR2-667 to get 1:1 ratio. The only way to take full advantage of the DDR2-1000 would be to overclock the CPU to 500MHz (2000Mhz FSB).

Just get DDR2-800. Fry's has 4GB (2 x 2GB) on sale for $20 after rebate w/free shipping.

That's the whole idea, to get to 500MHz. This board is capable of that. I have the DDR2-800 now and I believe it is limiting my overclock.

Would it make more sense to get DDR2-1066?
