Specs: Windows XP
Do you spend the extra money for a 6GB Dell Inspirion laptop and go with a 6GB for Windows 7 or is the 3GB ok?

3GB would likely be enough for 32-bit Win7 (Home). 6GB if 64-bit (Pro/Ultimate). Determine first which CPU is in the machine before ordering, since 32-bit Win7 would be underutilized on a 64-bit CPU, and 64-bit Win7 wouldn't run on a 32-bit CPU...

I don't think anyone is selling any computers with 32 bit processors anymore. That said, if you really need that much RAM then you should probably be working on a desktop computer.

They sell laptops with 32 bit OS's not the processors.

Unless you have some reason for technical programs or maybe some need for multiple programs all at once I doubt you need more then 3G in a laptop. Saying that my wife uses her's as a desktop and uses programs like cad and adobe and can use every bit if the 9 G installed.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

If you wife is working with CAD files that require that much RAM then she must be frustrated with the screen size of her laptop. Even the largest available laptop screen is not enough real estate for a large CAD file. Lots of zooming an panning going on I would imagine.
