Name: giggles
checking everest home edition it tells me that my powersupply is off a little on the 3.3V dual and it shows it at 3.58V
should i be worried?
i stopped overclocking last month if that matters
and ive never had problems before with my powersupplybut, just this week ive been having problems with my main harddrive to the likes of read errors where it wont let me copy files because it says it can't find the sector and sometimes when i try to open a file, it will say that my C: drive isnt formatted and asks me if id like to format it now
ive checked for viruses and it doesnt look like i have any
the exact error i get when copying says:
"Error copying file or folder
Cannot copy Nirvana Incesticide: The drive cannot find the sector requested"
theres a bunch more files that it wont let me copy and paste either so i guess they are lost foreverim shopping for a new harddrive too, theres a sweet deal on a seagate 160gb at circuitcity for $40 after mail in rebates
or does anyone think i can save my current one?
and is this harddrive problem related to the powersupply being off?common sense isn't very common

Hey giggles, I think that as long the voltages are within 10% they shouldent cause problems, although it is getting a little close to that 10% anyways.. I dont think that the hard drive problem would be directly related. Maby some bad sectors or sumthin. Just run a disk check to check for bad sectors etc. I really am not sure if 3.58V is good or bad so you probably have to wait for someone else.

I don't think that the slight overvolting is enough to worry about.
It does sound as though your hard drive is on its way out though. I'd buy another as soon as possible, and RMA that one if possible. Hard drives are like the tires on your car; it is only a matter of when they will wear out, not if.

this sucks because the drive itself is only a year and half old so im pretty sure its out of warranty and i havent gotten that much use out of it
its a western digital 80gb
i want that seagate for the 5 year warranty
i think im gonna keep using the failing drive until it dies since im having trouble believing that its going to die on me after only a year and a half and i have all my stuff backed up anyway
my stuff isnt even important its just crap and music and movies
and about the psu its off by that much under no load so i think i should see what it goes to under gaming load
makes me wish i had a multimeter on handthank you for the help Mattwizz3 (by mattwizz3)and repo man
common sense isn't very common

ok now this is uber pissing me off
i dont have sound whatsoever as of last night when i realized the copying files problem
and i cant do a scandisk because it wont run it just says
"windows was unable to complete the disk check"
and it wont even start
so i cant scandisk either of my harddrives
and i went to run and hit msconfig and it tells me that it doesnt recognize this command or something
what the hell is going on???
i think im gonna reformat and see if i can reinstall windows or maybe thats a bad idea
i dont know what to do, this suckscommon sense isn't very common

It could be the psu making the sound card go... But then it could also be the drivers unable to load because of the hard drive... Because of the sound problem it sounds like the PSU, but being unable to complete the scandisk and run the msconfig command sounds like the hard drive or a bad install of XP.. If it is your PSU and you continue to run it, things could get much worse. Good luck..

well the sound is onboard and im pretty sure it wouldnt work because the files it used were on a bad section of the harddrive
and it seems like these bad sections are spreading fast
i tried formatting and reinstalling
i got to copying a backup of my documents when the comp locked up and said explorer.exe couldnt run
then i restarted and couldnt get past a "disk read error" so i formatted again and tried to just install windows and i got to the part where setup 1st copies files and it stopped and said it oculdnt continue
so its a really good thing that that seagate is on sale tomorrow ;)
thank you for the help and belated merry christmascommon sense isn't very common
