30-40c Temp Spikes while idle

November 21, 2009 at 01:28:21
Specs: Windows 7

I randomly get these ginormous temperature spikes up to 95c even while idle. My system temperature remains around a constant 36c but my cpu idle runs at 58c and under normal load gets up around 65c. It never crashes when it gets that high, but thats mainly because i shut it off when i notice it gets that high. I checked the HSF and CPU seating and resat each of them.

65c really isn'y that terribly high especially under load. Not great but I don't think at all damaging. Now the 95c spike I don't know.

Likely

I want to go like my grandfather did. Peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming at the top of my lungs like the passengers in his car.

Could be the program you're using to monitor the temps. Which one is it?

They both report 30°C temp spikes? Can you check the temps in BIOS? If so, let the machine sit in BIOS for 10' or so and watch the temps.
