I have a fan that plugs into the motherboard. It has 3 wires. A red, a yellow, and a black. What are each one for? Does it have to have 3 or will it work with 2?

hello red is power most times. black is ground most times. yellow would usally be rpm

On this site I have read some fans have a variable speed. No doubt this third wire is to regulate that.
