3 Beeps, no screen

Compaq / Evo d310

Specs: Windows XP, 512 mb

I recently wanted to up grade an old computer. It has 512mb of ram, which I wanted to enhance to 1gig of ram.

I removed the memory, went to the store and ordered the enhanced memory. I tried to re-insert the the 512mb of ram (since I still have to wait for the new one) and all of the sudden my computer started beeping with no screen as result.

I have googled the issue, but since I am no expert when it comes to hardware, and motherboards, I bring the issue to more advanced users.

When I boot the computer it gives one short beep, followed by two long beeps. I believe it is bound to the brand of ?motherboard/bios?, but as I have mentioned before: I do not have the experience.

Thank you in advance!

Yours sincerely,

The beeping means that you didn't reinstall the memory correctly. Reseat the RAM.

Thank you for your quick response. I wonder though why I should re-install it, since it has always worked (it is the same one).

And if I have to re-install it, how should I do so since I cannot see the BIOS, nor windows, since the screen is blank?

Thanks in advance!

uh, take the RAM out of the memory slot, then put it back in again, then try booting your system.
