60 GB/Maxtor win 98
40 GB/Maxtor win XP I have the 60 maxtor as my master drive and runs fine. I have the jumpers on the 40Maxtor set to slave and hooked into the same cable as the other Hard Drive. I've gone into bios and tried to manually set it up but it still doesn't recognize it. Is it even possible to access a hard drive with a different OS and if it is does anyone have any ideas on what i'm doing wrong.

Reply: (edit)If the XP drive is NTFS you probably won't be able to access it. or did you mean the computer don't even see it? A test I do is start fdisk & look in option 5 cuz it lists the HD's physically there whether or not they're formatted or partitioned. People mention option 5 as something to check to make sure they don't have anymore partitions but I don't know what they're talking about cuz it only shows up if you have more than one HD so to be sure the option 5 I'm talking about is...
5. Change current fixed disk drive
...be careful & just look to see if it sees it if it does then your problem is probably cuz you can't access NTFS (thru Win98) if it's not there then check the cable. Take it off & put it back on. If the computer originally had Win98 then maybe the BIOS can't see NTFS but I don't know if BIOS's can have that limitation.
