OS: Win 98 SE
CPU/Ram: 200mhz/96mb of RAM
Comment:

My video card is an on board video card, and I wanted to upgrade it from 1mb to 2mb of memory. I put the little chips in (I do not know the name of them), and The Bios said I then had a 2 mb video card but when I started Win 98 the picture was all messed up, before windoes 98 the picture was fine. I have a Dell Optiplex Gs with the service tag number 9KXYZ.

Just a question.. is this your main computer? Or do you just like staring at the wall for an hour while your computer boots up? I used to have a "nice" 333.....a 200 must be hell....

Do you DESPERATELY need the extra 1 *?!?!* of video memory? Why do you need this so badly?

I suspect that you need a new driver for your video adapter.

I'm sure bear is correct. I have an old trident 1Mb card that uses different drivers than the 512Kb flavor of the same card/chipset.

Did you make sure that the vram chips were installed correctly? Is the extra vram compatible with the vga card? Is there a possibility that the vram is dodgy?

Adam makes a good point. The chip will fit in either direction but only work in one.

There is a notch on the top on one end of the chip and that needs to match with the u shaped notch on the socket.
