Hello,

I recently bought a 256mb "Mini Disk" USB 2.0 memory stick...

I wanted to transfer files from my PC (Windows XP) to a Mac G5... and when I did, an error message popped up saying that it couldn't read the files that was on the stick.

It gave me a couple of options saying to either format the stick or just eject. I had no choice but to format... tried formatting it but in the middle of formatting, it completely froze.

I just took out the stick from the Mac, then inserted it into my PC... and instead of reading 256MB, it now reads as 62.9mb for it's maximum capicity (???!)...

When I first bought the memory stick it was 256MB .. now its a useless 63MB stick! How'd this happen?

I'm running Windows XP Professional
1.1ghz / 512 ram
The name of the USB stick is "USB 2.0 Mini Flash Disk" (a pretty cheap product)

I'm guessing when I formatted it through the Mac computer something had corrupted the USB stick... but I could be wrong..
How can I fix this problem and get it back to 256MB?

Thanks in advance

Try reading it or formatting it from the command line.

I have seen that work with floppies before.

Other than that it's probably a coffee stirer now.

happens alot....there is a hidden file needed onthe disk to tell the computer how big the drive should be. If this is somehow acidentily removed it sizes it wronge. To fix it you must download the origanal .dat file from the manuafactures website. then trnsafer the file to the 62.9 mb and reformat it. It should now be able to format to the 256
