hi to all.
I have this old Toshiba HDD that I used on an 2.5" enclosure.
The HDD stoped working. I used several Low Level/Zero Filler tools on it. HDD testing software reports the HDD as OK.
Mechanical test passed.
Surface test passed.
etc , etc.
Now when I format the drive using computer managment when it reachs 100% it says format failed.
In command prompt using format command I get this error:
Formating in NTFS when reaches 100%:
"The first NTFS boot sector is unwriteable."
"All NTFS boot sectors are unwriteable."
"Cannot continue."Formating in FAT32 when reaches 100%:
"Invalid or Track 0 bad - disk unusable"Just yesterday I used this HDD to backup data from one PC to another. After copying the data I reformated the drive and got these errors.
So, any ideas?
I'm just a shadow of my former self!

Killdisk writes zeros to the drive.
I already used low level software on the drive.
Used Hitach Feature Tool, Seagate Disc Wizard, Maxtor Powermax, etc, etc.Testing the drive after ZeroFill is reported as OK.

Overheating seems to be the bane of the 2.5" externals. That said, if I understood you correctly you transferred alot of data and then formatted the drive. That may have overheated it.
I'm not convinced you can rely on the tests you ran. Obviously the drive isn't working correctly. I looked on the Toshiba site and they don't even have you run any integrity test before RMAing a drive. This leads me to believe they don't manufacture their own drives. I could be wrong about that but I thought it odd there is no tools on the site that I could locate.
