Is an Intel Pentium 233MMX a Pentium I or a Pentium II?

I thought it was a Pentium II, but now I'm not sure.

Its a PI (as in one). It is the fastest speed pentiumI ever made.

It's not a Pentium 1, there is no such thing as a Pentium 1. It would be properly referred to as simply a Pentium CPU. Is it a PII, no. It's the last Socket 7 CPU that Intel made.

I think the Pentium chip finished at 233Mhz (w/ MMX) and then the PII started at 233?

It's a Pentium II equivelent, a Pentium 233MMX but not actually a Pentium II.

I have one on a GA-5586TX3 M/Board & it's classed as an MMX so in reality it's the last Pentium I

My machine is a Pentium 233MMX. It wasn't called a Pentium 1 at the time. It was followed by the Pentium Pro and then Pentium II. The major difference is that the Pro and II and all that follow have memory type range registers which the P233 didn't have (which is why you don't need mtrr.vxd).

The last socket 7 Pentium chip ever made by Intel. Intel then started to make Slot 1 CPU's with the Pentium 2 starting off at 300 MHz and finishing at 450 MHz.

I believe that if the cpu is a socket 7 then it would be classified as A pentium but if it is a slot 1 then it is classified as Pentium 2.intel started the slot 1 CPU's at 233 then 266 300 and 333 (All slot 1's had a FSB of 66)then it was all celerons and Pentium 3's (100 FSB)

Pentiums go as high as 266mhz (133mhz to 266mhz), the fastest straight pentium chip. PII's start at 266mhz and (I believe) go up to 400mhz.

Well if pentiums start at 133 then why is there a pentium 120MHz.?and I have a slot 1 pentium 2 233MHz. it is a secc cartridge that says pentiumII mmx right on it.

there are P-I at 233 MMX (Socket 7)
and there are P-II at 233 (Slot I) (big black box)

Yes, there is a Pentium II 233 Slot One SEC CPU but they are rare. I would bet that 99% of those that refer to the Pentium 233 MMX CPU are talking about the Socket 7 CPU and not the Slot One but there is still no such thing as a Pentium I, it would just be a Pentium CPU and the Pentium CPU's started at 60Mhz and ended at 233Mhz, then the Pentium II's came along.

Is "The Matrix" still going to be "The Matrix" when the second one comes out? It won't become "The Matrix 1" Now will it? Same thing here folks.

The first pentium was released in 1993 and had a speed of 40 Mhz It ended all in 1997 With a speed of 233Mhz The pentium 2 Started with a speed of 233Mhz

Okay, knock it off! Again, KTTD is right.

The original Pentium was introduced to replace 486.

Then Pentium MMX (Multi Media Extension)was introduced with additional instructions imbedded for muliti media enhancement. This new processor was great for games and multimedia. This is designed for use on home computers.

Pentium Pro was introduced for business minded folks. This is more expensive, but while this CPU outperform all CPUs in business applications, it didn't do well in the gaming arena. You will seldom find a Pentium Pro processor in a home computer system.

Then the birth of Pentium II. This is simply a Pentium Pro with added instructions for multi media. In short, a Pentium Pro and Pentium MMX combined. This is designed to attract both business and home users alike. To simply explain it, Pentium II performs like a Pentium MMX when playing games and performing multi media function, while it will perform like a pentium Pro when doing business application. Nothing more, nothing less.

So, to answer your question, what is a Pentium MMX at 233 Mhz??? The answer is:

"It is a Pentium MMX running at 233 Mhz"

Simple, huh?
