This might sound like a no-brainer but please read on. I currently have Logitech z-640 5.1 speaker set. I am planning to buy another set for my other pc. I came across the Yamaha YST-MS50 2.1 speaker set. Now, I know yahama makes better quality speakers than logitech but I noticed that the price for the 2.1 speaker set is higher than the 5.1. I was wondering should I get the 2.1 speaker set instead of another z-640? I am an avid gamer and like to hear the detailed sounds provided by the surround sound of the logitech 5.1 speakers. Can I expect that kind of an effect from these (more costly) 2.1 Yamaha Speakers Set. I have heard nothing but good things about them.

If you want the different sounds go for the 5.1, its true surround sound. 2.1 sounds decent for stereo sound, but not surround

Just a note: I disagree on the quality of Logitech vs. Yamaha, or even Creative vs. Yamaha. Sounds really stupid but here's why....

I had purchased a Yamaha complete 6.1 home theater for my living room. I had tons of trouble with the wireless speakers, and also kept blowing the center channels. (Later found out it was the Amplifier surging) While I was waiting on another replacement center channel, I was upgrading my PC speakers from my old Creative 5.1 to the new Logitech because of their new 10" sub unit. Just playing around I cut the plugs off of the old Creative speakers and used them as temporary center channels. I could hear the difference at once! They sounded better than the Yamaha's had. I played some more and ended up using all the Creatives in place of the Yamaha's, and they really sounded better, and I never blew the Mid channels. Now we are talking a $600.00 price difference. I returned the whole Yamaha theater, bought a 12" powered sub and Surround Sound controller and amp from a pawn shop and have had it cranking for over a year now. Never underestimate PC components compared to home electronics manufacturers!

Harmon Kardon (which I THINK is now Harmon- JBL) still makes the best sounding PC audio I have ever heard.. hands down... without question.
