Right.

No fluff.

What is a safe temp for an ATHLON 2000XP to be running at.

Mine is hitting highs now. I run Star wars Battle for Naboo, and it goes way up in the 70's.

But I use Motherboard Monitor for this.

Please someone recommend CPU monitor software.

Athlon XP's are safe up to about 95C. If you haven't overclocked at all, 70's might be a little high, depending on the climate you live in. But it is still within safe limits.

Well. Not overclocked.

But it does go up to around 76 degrees c.

And it idles at around 45.

I am off to buy some artic silver today, methinks. I used the "thermal" pink chewing gum-like substance that came with the cpu.

Not very good, but at least I got to use the machine straight away.

And as for temps. I am in Georgia. It is HOT.

Damn hot.

I agree with changing the thermal material on the bottom of the HSF to thermal paste. Even generic paste is better.

Yes, definitely use thermal paste. I'd also consider some extra case fans.

XxxFrancisxxxUSA,

post back if you use the artic silver. I have been wondering if it really works better than others.

Ok. Wifey went and got me some regular thermal paste. I don't see ANY difference frm the generic buble gum substance the hsf came with.

So. More fans, or I might get a peltier cooler.

The machine is stable.

I am also wondering, does my motherboard NOT give the correct readings in these freeware temp monitors.

My bios says, after rebooting and checking the heat in the bios (takes about 3 seconds to get the bios readout after soft reboot) 45 degrees. But the readout on the motherboard monitor reckons high 70's!

I have 3 monitors on my motherboard. Which is which!
