Hi everyone.

1. My PC133 sticks are running at 3,3,3,6 (at about 150MHz) but I cannot make them run at 2,2,2,6 (through bios/asus p4b) though it's supposed to be CL2 RAM. Why?

2. I just sold 2x 128mb sticks and bought instaid 2x 512mb sticks for a grand total of 1280mb.

Is it worth keeping that last extra 256mb stick or should i just sell it too and keep that nice gig?

Will those 256mb EVER make a difference? (PC use: general multimedia + gaming + some corel/photoshop).
Note: All RAM sticks match now, all are hard-to-find Infineon 7,5ns sticks, just keep em all?

Peace.

Just keep them all because you wont get much for a 256mb stick. Why can't you set the option? Is it greyed out, not there or simply resets the settings on boot?

No, I actually CAN set it through the bios and the system boots fine (it crashed once though, because it's o/c'd maybe?), but when I check the latency values on either AIDA32 or Everest it tells me everything's still 3,3,3,6.

Are these readings wrong then?

- And about those "extra" 256mb I have, well funny enough I could get about US$50 since it's such a "rare" model.

Peace.

1. You can't get them to run at CAS2 because you're running the memory bus at 150MHz. Back off to 133MHz & I'll bet you can tighten up on your timings.

2. The RAM queston is a tough one. 1GB is plenty & I doubt the extra 256MB matters much one way or the other. I don't know what you had to pay for 2 x 512MB of PC133, but personally, I would have invested in a new board & 2 x 512MB of PC3200 instead, then sold off the old board/RAM (unless you have another use for it).

- Yeah, I have my system running at 18x 110ish since the damned multiplier is locked on my chip. And it DOES make quite a difference regarding performance, specially in gaming.

- But I'll set it at it's original clock speed (18x100MHz) just to check this latency issue.
Thanks for the tip.

- And I got a pretty good deal an my new ram, still it was the same price as a nice CL2,5 pair of 512's pc2300, true (about US$95).
But my system runs great (all things concidered) and I have attachment problems with it as well, and I didn't really want to replace mobo, cpu and ram right now.

Hey, upgrading is always good but who said a system has to be top of the line in order to be able to fully enjoy it. So there you go.

Peace.

And yeah I guess I'll try sell those extra 256mb to get some of my money back from that gig I just bought, I'll upload it tonight on amazon and see if someone bites for US$45 or so, if not I'll just keep it where it is.

...By the way, after 1280mb installed why the hell does my system keep using "virtual memory" from the HDD? Is there a manual setting for that somewhere?

Peace.

In order to control the virtual memory used by your system, right click on My Computer>Properties>Advanced> under Performance click Settings>Advanced> under Virtal Memory click the change button and in here you can set the size of the page file Windows uses for virtual memory. You can turn it off, but I don't know if I would. Just depends on how aggressive you want to be.
